kiss 'do', 'lo' mat

Short and sweet post like last time but I've been mulling over this for a while. Anyone with a linguistics background or a two-bit opinion (i.e. All of us. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.) please to be commenting and advancing my understanding of human society.

Every one of the protesters who managed to corner themselves a sound-byte during the Richard Gere-Shilpa Shitty issue non-issue said one thing that cracked me up in a melancholic kind of way. Hindi language, or Hindi grammar is representative of the condition of the Hindi woman. Each one of the Khakhi-chaddi and we-oppose-pecks-on-the-cheek-but-not-daily-sleaze brigade kept iterating, indignantly, 'ki unhon ne Shilpa ji ki kiss li'. (He took a kiss from Shilpa).

Buddy from where I was sitting and from the million 'Matrix'-style slow-mo 360 degree angle shots of the kiss it seemed like Richard Gere didn't take a kiss from Shilpa but planted one on her instead. Kehna chahiye ki unhon ne Shilpa ko kiss di. Li nahin, di. (It should be said that he gave Shilpa a kiss. Gave, didn't take.) I hope some of you have figured out what I'm driving our attention towards. Even the way rape is framed in Hindi it seems as if something has been looted from the woman, 'izzat lootna', (take away her dignity). This framing is easy to understand if you're familiar with the looming and unchanging monolith of Indian Culture or Bharatiya Sanskriti or let's say BS. :) Because according to BS there only 10,000 kisses; 10,000 hugs; 10,000 litres of izzat (dignity) and 10,000 leg-spreading opportunities in the lifetime of the Adarsh Nari (The Good Woman). So every sexual contact with a man depletes your reserve of womanhood or goodness. That is why we witnessed such violent protests against Gere, he took a kiss from Shitty. And in doing so he took a kiss away from the silently and violently wanking public of India. So you see taking a kiss from Shitty directly endangers the fragile construct, Indian Machismo and nothing is more precious to BS than preserving it. Or so sayeth they who don the Chaddi of the Colour of the Soil. Soiled Chaddi Dons. Hehehehehe.............. I just returned from a JJ Vallaya fashion show, the my kind of JJ Vallaya fashion show not the designer Sa'ab's show.

FYI, in my khaata (account) I have no kisses, no hugs, no litres of dignity and a negative balance of leg-spreading opprtunities. Just FYI.

this is still politically correct dont u think ... izzat lootna ... how abt "us bhoside-waale ne is aurat ki maa chod di ".. ya "usko solid bajaya" .... nothing screams poetry like hindi abuses...

That's one helluvan opinionated post! What is it that you mean by a "Hindi woman"? It's the first time I've heard someone using language to describe a gender. And really, whoever told you such deep, dark secrets about BS? Hobo, you need to be able to differentiate propoganda from fact. What you're railing against is not bhartiya sanskriti but its self-appointed pseudo guardians. Who decided that the Hindi woman should and should not do this? Not something as abstract as Indian culture certainly!

@me....no that sounds wrong

@you: apologies. clearly my attempt at sarcasm failed here or it completely bypassed you. i hope you can re read the post and realise the fallacy of claiming a unified and singular notion of 'Bharatiya Sanskriti'. therefore i deliberately inserted the words 'unchanging' and 'monolith'(ic) to suggest this very absurdity in adducing some vague and poorly abstracted notion of 'Bharatiya Sanskriti' to justify the unabashed hooliganism as demonstrated by the self-appointed pseudo-guardians of our culture. but next time i'll try and make my disdain more patently clear.

hindi woman simply because the english woman, the french woman, the spanish woman, the tamil woman, the kashmiri woman, the punjabi woman, the dogri woman and the any woman as defined within a language operates within certain constraints. the ones unique to the hindi woman, or the ones that i noticed during this particular episode have been discussed here.

Ok the whole Gere - Shewpa(as Jane Goody would have said) thing was just so bloody DUMB!
And even if Gere "took" a kiss from her, if she "gave" it willingly, whats anyone elses problem? bah!

What's the difference between desi and amreekan democracy.

In amreeka you can kiss in public but not pee.
