equanimity

equanimity is a dirty word.

these are the days that exhaust themselves without effort.

pleasant days suffused with the pleasantness of a pleasant landscape painting.

yes. i am carping about a life so ordinary.

motionless. commotionless. unrecognizably dull.

mumbai didn't thrill me, delhi didn't thrill me, london didn't thrill me. until

paharganj. shoes thrill me.

aquamarine and yellow roman sandals.

shoe shopping: helping hobo rescue herself from mind-numbing ennui, one day at a time.

this is called putting your best foot forward.

Shoe shopping. The two words to divert the attention of men the world over. Remember to mention lace bras when you want our attention back here...

oh come one! if you'd seen the array of colours and designs on display, the bargains available, aggarwal sa'ab ki bong and chillum shop and of course the novelty of paharganj then you'd be as excited as i am. nonchalantly of course. it's probably the heat.

I own 4 pairs of footwear.

- A pair of those standard black and red nike sandals.
- A pair of bata chappals.
- A pair of black formals.
- A pair of nike sneakers that I had to go to bloody cp to find my size.

And I couldn't be happier with ALL that choice.

I own 5 pairs of footwear.

- A pair of those floaters with a nike swoosh on them. I bought them 4 years ago from Fort road side stall.
- A pair of bata slippers that I wear at home.
- A pair of black formals in dryme (whatever that means) leather.
- A pair of Nike sneakers that I bought from Parel showroom.
- A pair of brown sweat (that is what the dealer at the shoe shop said) leather Red Tape shoes

.. and I still think they are more than enough!!

after reading the comments, i'm really concerned about the boys i live with. i know they're "metrosexuals" but normal guys have five pairs of shoes? that's it? seriously? these guys have about 10-15 each, and they still go out adn buy more. penny loafers from massimo dutti in blue, black and just in case, beige.

being a girl, i will not even try to talk about the shoes i own.

I hope you are returning to London laden with presents if you've been to Paharganj! You have no idea how rotten my life is now.

Hobo, you do the most incredible things. Would love to read more about Paharganj.

i'll have another one said...

wouldnt know about the sandal shopping particularily but ya paharganj and all thats old world delhi has a magical quality of history and wonder, mixed with the the looming threat of shady characters and thrill of super deals...all in all therapeutic (though i wouldnt recommend it in summer)

what i love though is how you bounce from such an intense topic of moral grounds in your last post to chappal shopping!

i get 7 comments on the tiger issue and 11 when i write on shoes.....

i'm galled by the fact that there are men out there who only own 4-5 pair of shoes, one of whom is gay. and this number of shoes is an assertion of their masculinity. men and i are fundamentally different species i think. my identity is not wrapped in the number of shoes i own. i do own an inordinate amount and i question the wisdom in owning 23 shoes for just 2 feet. yes m'lord, i own 23 pairs of shoes of which only 2 are heels the rest are all sandals and keds. i don't ever actually wear heels, i buy them, i think to decorate my room with. i used to own many heels until i figured for the longevity of my inter-personal relationships i need to banish them altogether. i become exceptionally cranky an hour in to wearing heels. i like keds with crossbones. sandals in bright hues. jootis. mojris. chappals of all denominations. and then i have to discipline my shoecentricity by including 5 pairs of boring functional shoes for office, for this and for that. as opposed to the rest that just suit my moods. these tyrannical 5 are the ones my feet would be trapped in for the better part of the year. in fact a tyrannical two.

oddly though, i love being barefoot the most. :)
